Grant County animal zoning subject of lawsuit

MILBANK (AP) — A citizens group in Grant County is suing to force a public vote on proposed zoning ordinance changes.
The group wants the county to increase the required distance between large animal operations and homes, wells and other structures. The County Commission in December rejected petitions calling for a vote.
The lawsuit asks a judge to overturn the commission’s decision.
Opponents said increasing the setbacks would make it nearly impossible to build a new dairy in Grant County or expand an existing one.
