20th annual South Dakota Horse Fair planned March 19-21 in Sioux Falls

Everything is white outside, but spring is on the way.  That means it’s time for the 20th Annual South Dakota Horse Fair, March 19-21 at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds Expo Building in Sioux Falls.
 New to the Horse Fair this year are a dog trial and freestyle reining. The region's largest horse trade show will be open all three days.
 This expo promotes and showcases all breeds and aspects of the horse industry. Featured presenters include Richard Winter, winner of 2009 Road to the Horse and Super Cow Horse competitions; Horse &Rider magazine's Editor-in-chief Juli S. Thorson; and others. They will show spectators the finer points of working with a horse for performance to their highest ability, and talk about the changes in the horse industry.
 South Dakota State University Equine Students will present the challenges of finding the balance between horse processing and legislation.  There will also be presentations on working with a horse's feet safely, and saddle fitting. 
 March 19 begins with Winter and continues with the Stallion Versatility Contest, which will will show off the many talents of stallions from several different breeds. They will compete in five events.
 March 20, gates open at 8:30 a.m. The day will be packed with demonstrations and lectures on many different aspects of the horse industry
 For the younger horse enthusiast, there will be a hippology and judging contest, plus a horse safety training for all ages. A 6 p.m. Ranch Rodeo will round out the day.
 March 21 begins with  a church service at 9 a.m., followed by other presentations on all aspects of horses.   Admission is $8 for adults, $5 for youth (6-13) and children 5 and under get in free.
