Hub Area 4-H Rodeo this weekend

The Hub Area 4-H Rodeo will be held July 1-2. The rodeo starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday and begins with the Rodeo Ambassador coronation at 8:45 a.m. on Sunday.

Competing for the title of Junior Hub Area Rodeo Ambassador are Callie Aamont, Candice Aamont, Danielle Podoll, Lacey Westphal, and Cami Wolles. There are no competitors for Senior Hub Area Rodeo Ambassador this year.

Promoting 4-H, rodeo, and the western way of life are the current ambassadors, Morgan Janisch of Lake City and Faith Fliehs of Groton. They have traveled around the state this past year helping with various events, reading rodeo stories to children, and representing 4-H rodeo. After being crowned Senior Hub Area 4-H Ambassador, Morgan Janisch went on to compete for the title of South Dakota State 4-H Rodeo Ambassador. This is the title she now holds and will crown a new state ambassador in August at the State 4-H Rodeo Finals in Ft. Pierre.

Competitor biographies

Callie Aamot is the 13-year-old from DeSmet, South Dakota. Her parents are Anne and Bjorn Aamot. She will be entering the 8th grade at DeSmet Middle School, Callie enjoys doing 4-H rodeo, competing in Junior High rodeos, NBHA, SDBRA, and Blazin Barrels. She is also a part of the 4-H dog program and horse program. Callie enjoys riding horse and helping on the farm. Her favorite event to compete in is goat tying.

Candice Aamot is the 9-year-old daughter of Anne and Bjorn Aamot from DeSmet, South Dakota. She will be a 4th grader this fall. Her favorite activities are trick riding, riding horse, and soccer. This year she will be showing her dog in 4-H. This is Candice’s first time competing in the queen contest and she is very excited.

Danielle Podoll is the 13-year-old daughter of Scott and Michelle Podoll. She will be in the 9th grade at Aberdeen Central this fall. This is her sixth year in rodeo and participating in the Ambassador contest. She loves rodeo and will be competing in barrel racing and pole bending this weekend. Her other hobbies are playing hockey, golfing, and running NBHA barrel races.

Lacey Westphal is the 11-year-old daughter of Wes and Christi Westphal from Leola, South Dakota. She will be a 7th grader at Leola Middle School where she participates in cross country, volleyball, basketball, band, track, and rodeo. She enjoys riding her horses, competing in rodeo, and helping her dad work with cattle. This weekend Lacey will be participating in barrel racing, pole bending, goat tying, and breakaway roping.

Cami Wolles is from Dell Rapids, South Dakota. She is the 9-year-old daughter of Ed and Teresa Wolles. She is going to be in the 4th grade. This weekend she will be competing in barrel racing, pole bending, and goat tying. She enjoys riding horse, sewing, and playing with her cats. This is Cami’s second year in 4-H.
