Northern Plains Sustainable Ag (NPSAS) is hosting a local food tour in the Fargo-Moorhead area. The event will be held on Sept. 8, and there will be three separate tour locations.

The first tour will begin at 9 a.m. at Hugh’s Gardens, 100 3rd St. W, Halstad, MN, an organic produce supply business, specializing in potatoes and other root vegetables. Hugh’s works with organic producers from the Red River Valley region to store, wash, package and market their produce in the region.

The second tour location will begin at 11 a.m. at the Lee and Noreen Thomas Farm, 12506 N 20th St., Moorhead, MN. The farm is certified organic and provides local foods to the Fargo-Moorhead area. They also grow crops of blue corn, hay, barley, wheat and soybeans. Lunch will be served following the tour for a cost of $12. (Please bring a lawn chair.) Attendees who plan to stay for lunch will need to RSVP to info@npsas.org by September 2.

The third and final tour will begin at 2 p.m. at Prairie Roots Food Co-op, 1213 Northern Pacific Ave., Suite 100, Fargo ND. Prairie Roots opened their store-front in the summer of 2017. They are dedicated to enhancing the community by providing access to natural, organic and locally produced food.

Tours are free and open to the public. Attendees will meet at Hugh’s Gardens and drive to each tour location, and can join or leave at any time.
