By hook or by crook – we’re going to make the show

“You’ve got to be joking, mom! You’re doing what? Don’t you realize that you’re not 29 anymore? I hate to say it – but you just don’t have the strength like you used to.”

Well, to me – those were fighting words. Humpf! How dare my daughters–all three of them – tell me that I was too old to do this! I loved doing this and by golly, I was going to do it one more time if it killed me. And although I came close to throwing in the towel once or twice and ‘pert near’ quit, the absolute attraction of this activity kept me going. And the story goes like this….

The Big Attraction

What is this activity which holds such an allure for me? Well, none other than the Watertown Winter Farm Show. My family has been involved with this event since before I was born. It’s in my blood and by hook or by crook, I was going to be part of all the action. Yes, indeedy.

Actually, my daughters were correct in stating that their mother was getting a little “over the hill” to be doing what she was trying to do. After several years of not showing cattle, I entered some of our animals for the show and thus, they became my responsibility. Uffdah!
