Two will be honored by Sertoma Club
The Aberdeen Sertoma Club will honor Stacy Bauer of Mina and Matt Prehn of Aberdeen.
Bauer will be presented with the 2013 Sertoma Service to Mankind award. Prehn will be honored as the Aberdeen Sertoman of the Year.
The presentations will be at a banquet April 23 at the Ramkota Hotel, beginning with a reception at 6 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m. To make reservations, call the United Way office at 605-225-0212.
According to a news release:
Bauer has served as the manager of the Aberdeen Target store for 16 years. She, her husband, Bryan, and son Hunter live at Mina Lake and farm in Brown County.
Bauer not only manages the local store but also is involved in many roles throughout the Target district. Some of those roles include hiring and recruiting individuals for executive management, placement and planning.
Within the Aberdeen community, Bauer has played a role in organizing and planning a variety of volunteer projects for her team at Target with several nonprofit agencies serving the community.
Her volunteer activities outside the workplace include concert series committee fundraising for the Aberdeen Christian School and planning and organizing the SPURS Barn Dance. Along with her husband and son, they host “Bailey Day” in memory of their daughter for
Camp Dreammakers at their lake home in July each year. They also participate in Christmas Eve at the hospitals each year.
Bauer served on the United Way of Northeastern South Dakota Board of Directors for six years. While on the United Way board, she was an active member of the budget/evaluation committee and in 2007 served as the campaign chair for the annual campaign. She serves on the United Way Foundation board of directors. She has served on The Salvation Army and SPURS board of directors and is active in her church’s women’s ministry.
Prehn is a 10-year member of the Aberdeen Sertoma Club and is a member of the club’s board of directors. He previously served two years as club president and was board chairman in 2010. Additionally, he has been a member of the club’s Storybook Land committee and Holiday Festival of Lights committee. Prehn is also managing the Sertoma Club Football Book sales fundraising promotion. Over the past 10
years, he has been very active in many of the club’s community events.
Prehn serves on several other Aberdeen community organizations as well. He is past president and was a board member of the Hub Area Habitat for Humanity for eight years. He has been a board member for the United Way of Northeast South Dakota for the past two years and has assisted the organization by serving on the budget review committee. Prehn has volunteered with Junior Achievement as a fifth-grade classroom teacher at Simmons Elementary School for eight years. He is a member of the Aberdeen Parks, Recreation and Forestry Board of Directors. He is a lead counter and a past member of the financial resources team for Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
Prehn enjoys coaching youth sports, playing basketball and golfing.
He is a principal business relationship manager with Wells Fargo Bank in Aberdeen and has been with the company for more than 13 years. He is an Aberdeen Roncalli and University of South Dakota graduate.
He and his wife, Andrea, have been married for 12 years. They have two sons, Maxwell, 10, and Anderson, 6, who attend Roncalli schools.
