Workshop Saturday for piano, music teachers
A workshop on teaching composition and improvisation for piano teachers and classroom music teachers will be Saturday at the Johnson Fine Arts Center.
The event is co-sponsored by Aberdeen Area Music Teachers Association, which is an affiliate of MTNA, the Music Teachers National Association, and Northern State University.
The workshop will take place in the choir room at the center. It begins with registration and coffee at 9 a.m.
Taking part will be four NSU faculty members: Robert Vodnoy, Wendy van Gent, Fred Hemke and Marcela Faflak. Guest artists will be Ron Parker of Aberdeen and cellist Wesley Baldwin of the University of Tennessee, who has a residency in Aberdeen this week.
The main presenter in the afternoon will be D. Eileen Geske, who received North Dakota’s Foundation Fellow award for 2013 at MTNA’s National Conference in Anaheim, Calif.
By attending the workshop, piano teachers and public school music teachers may earn contact hours for continuing education and renewal of their South Dakota teaching license.
