Aberdeen Roncalli Junior and Senior High band and choir students will present the school’s 2013 Pops Concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Roncalli High School Gym.

Performing will be the junior high choir, high school choir, junior high concert band, high school jazz band and the high school concert band.

The concert is free, and the public is invited. Pop and popcorn will be sold during the concert.

The junior high choir will perform two pieces on its own. The first selection is a traditional spiritual, “Shine On Me.” The second piece is “Johnny Has Gone for a Soldier.” In this arrangement, Russell Robinson partners the song with “When Johnny Comes Marching Home.”

The junior high choir will then be joined by the high school choir to perform “Home.”

The high school choir will sing “Stand By Me” and finish with “I’ve Had the Time of My Life.”

Three instrumental groups will perform in their final concert of the year. The first is the jazz band, comprised of selected junior high and high school members, which will play the Latin-styled “Phat Kat,” the ballad “Send in the Clowns” and a boogie-woogie shuffle, “In the Doghouse.”

Later in the program, the junior high concert band will play “The Muppet Show” theme and “Pop Culture,” a selection that features each section of the band. The high school concert band will take the stage with “Hollywood Milestones,” a medley of movie themes, and “You Can’t Stop the Beat” from the Broadway musical and hit movie “Hairspray.”

The bands are directed by Kimberly Carda, and the choirs are under the direction of Camille Fischer.
