Storybook Land activities begin this week
The 2013 summer season at Wylie Park and Storybook Land begins this week with free entertainment and activities.
On Monday and Thursday evenings of each week, at 7 p.m., the Aberdeen Optimist Club sponsors free craft activities on the castle stage. This week’s Monday activity is “Face Painting.” People of all ages are invited to come out to have their faces decorated with motifs, logos, pictures of animals and other items. Evening craft activities continue on Thursday with “Sand Painting.”
Both evening sessions begin at 7 p.m.
“Fables and Fairytales,” a program for children ages 3 to 7, begins at 10 a.m. Friday at the Castle. “Fables and Fairytales” is a special storytime, co-sponsored by the Alexander Mitchell Public Library and the Aberdeen Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department, that includes stories, songs, games and an arts and crafts activity.
Family Fun Weekend will be celebrated at Wylie Park Saturday and June 9. Special activities include a kids’ fishing contest for kids K-6 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Saturday, a sand castle/sculpture contest from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Wylie Park Beach and a watermelon feed at 1:30 p.m. June 9 in Storybook Land.
Special discounts on paddleboats, canoes and fun-yaks will be given from 4 to 6 p.m. June 9. Family Fun activities are co-sponsored by the Aberdeen Firefighters Local 446, Ken’s SuperFair Foods and the Millstone Family Restaurant.
“Gather up the family this week and visit Storybook Land and Wylie Park,” says Aberdeen Parks, Recreation and Forestry. “Now is the time to create fond summertime memories and cement relationships.”
