The Pine Creek is a shingle-style cottage with plenty of natural light

The Pine Creek is a contemporary version of a traditional shingle-style cottage. Shingles cover its front facade, including the slender wall sections that frame the garage door. Stone veneer bases under slender wooden posts add to the visual appeal. This home could be wheelchair accessible.

Inside, the foyer opens out into a naturally bright great room that connects three linked gathering spaces and extends all the way from the front to the rear.

Light washes into the great room through a wide Craftsman-style window at the front, plus two windows flanking the fireplace. This room is almost completely open to the dining room. The transition is minimally marked by narrow wall extensions on both sides of the opening.

The dining area is also filled with natural light, which spills in through a trio of rectangular windows that stretch across most of its exterior wall. This room is entirely open to the kitchen, where counters, cabinets and built-in appliances wrap around three sides. A work island with an eating bar anchors the center. A parent standing at the kitchen sink can keep tabs on activities in the covered patio or the yard beyond.

From the dining area, a hallway leads to the bedrooms, bathrooms, utilities and garage. Garage access is through the utility room to the right; bathrooms and bedrooms are ahead and to the left.

A spacious owners’ suite fills the rear of this wing. It boasts a roomy walk-in closet, two basins and an enclosable toilet and shower, for both privacy and steam containment. Secondary bedrooms share the main bathroom, which comes outfitted with a combination tub and shower.

The Pine Creek’s two-car garage has room for a workbench at the rear.
