Course to be offered as part of Storybook Land

Northern State University has partnered with the eighth annual Storybook Land Festival, which runs July 26 and 27, and created a course called Exploring Literacy.

The course will be a two-day workshop during the festival. Children’s author John Archambault will spend time with the class investigating the educational philosophy of Archambault’s works. Archambault’s works include “Chicka Chicka Boom Boom,” “Boom Chicka Rock” and “Barn Dance!”

Archambault will illustrate how music and poetry can be intertwined for language development. Students will spend time with the award-winning author, who has been said to “motivate kids to turn off the TV and get turned on to the magical worlds that reading can deliver,” according to a news release.

The workshop will be taught by Dennis Scott. The course is one credit pass/fail. For questions or to reserve a place in the course, email or call Scott at 254-493-8267 or contact the Aberdeen Area Arts Council at or 605-226-1557.

Formal registration and payment of $40 will be taken the first day of the course.
