Quotes to Live By Essay Contest open to all 4th, 7th and 9th grade writers

BROOKINGS — South Dakota 4-H seeks 4th, 7th and 9th grade writers to enter the South Dakota 4-H – Quotes to Live by Essay Contest, formerly known as the Foundations for Life Essay Contest. The Quotes to Live By Essay Contest is a fun, easy and effective way to enhance your school’s or 4-H club’s character efforts.

“The contest is to inspire youth to reflect upon, express and commit to living by wise and enduring truths that will guide them to make ethical choices throughout their lives. Along with the name change Contest Coordinators will find new maxims and activities that will stretch students’ minds and will help them develop critical thinking,” said Karelyn Farrand, SDSU Extension 4-H Youth Character Education Field Specialist.

The contest is open to all South Dakota Schools, Home Schools and Individual 4-H members. Fourth, seventh and ninth grade students may enter the contest. Cash prize awards are given to the top five places at each grade level. First Place – $300; Second Place – $200; Third Place – $100; 4th Place — $50; and Fifth Place – $50.

January 31, 2015 Deadline

The South Dakota 4-H Staff is looking forward to receiving your entries for the contest. Within the Official S.D. 4-H Quotes to Live By Essay Contest Packet contestants will find the materials necessary to enter the contest.

The winning essays from your local competition will advance to the statewide competition.
