'Good, Bad, and Invasive' plant tour scheduled for June 3
A plant tour is scheduled for June 3 at Sica Hollow State Park near Sisseton.
An annual event, the "Good, Bad, and Invasive" tour will allow participants to learn about various plants and their function within pastures and grasslands.
"In a crop field, we often focus on helping one plant survive and more or less (eliminate) the rest," Pete Bauman, a South Dakota State Extension Range Field Specialist and event host wrote in a news release. "In a grassland, we have dozens of plants to consider and our management actions can either help or hinder entire plant communities."
The plant tour is a one-day, free event hosted by South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks, The Nature Conservancy, SDSU Extension and County Weed Supervisors.
Bauman noted that while the event has been attended by farmers, ranchers and gardeners, all members of the public are welcome.
RSVPs for the event are required. Contact Joe Blastic at (605)880-6541 or Owen McElroy at (605)520-1935 for more information.
