Farm Forum

The Dakota Sharpshooters met January 3, 2013 at Northern Electric at 7 p.m.

Grace Malsam led the American pledge and Keyli Sawatsky led the 4-H pledge. The club got two pieces of correspondence, one from Joe Ackerman and one from Aspire for what the club donated to them. Travis Sharp and Jessemy Sharp reported on the county Christmas tree and all the gifts donated to Aspire. Aleigha Howell reported on purchasing our additional gift for Aspire. At the meeting, the club made a craft.

The next meeting will be February 5, 7:00 P.M. at Northern Electric.

Lazy Farmers

The December meeting of the Lazy Farmers was held on Sunday, December 2, 2012 at the Jungle Lanes in Groton following the club’s Christmas party of bowling and pizza.

The pledge of allegiance was led by Makayla Jones, and the 4-H pledge was led by Brooklyn Gilbert. The roll call topic was “Where will you spend Christmas?” Kelby, Claire, and Kayde were guests at the Christmas party and meeting.

The November secretary’s minutes were read by Alexandra Stange, and a motion was made by Tara Telkamp and seconded by Maryn Howard. The minutes were approved. The treasurer’s report was given by Lexi Gustafson, and a motion was made by Maryn Howard and seconded by Kari Hanson. The report was approved. Outstanding bills included scholarships and Threshing Bee bills. A motion was made by Tara Telkamp to give a $75 donation to the Groton Community Center and seconded by Maryn Howard. The motion was approved.

Old business included any community service projects completed by members during the month of November. Tara Telkamp provided 20 hours of service to the Humane Society, Parade of Lights and senior citizens. Tessa Erdmann volunteered during a Humane Society fundraiser. Club members were reminded that once they are registered online, they need to go back and enroll in their project areas for the current 4-H year.

New business included a total of a $105 monetary donation, and many gifts were collected from members for ASPIRE, which was the organization chosen by Brown County 4-H to support this holiday season. The Hanson’s volunteered to deliver gifts to the court house in Aberdeen. The December Newshound was read by president Wyatt. A Christmas fun day was planned for December 15 from 1-4 p.m. at the 4-H office. Tessa volunteered to donate the dozen cookies from our club, and Tara committed to volunteering as a junior leader that day.

The next meeting will be Sunday, January 6, at Alex and Jamesen Stange’s farm. There will be a basic, instructional, hands-on welding project opportunity prior to the meeting. Welding and dinner will begin at 5:30, with the meeting to follow at 6:30.

A motion was made by Kari Hanson to adjourn the meeting and seconded by Jamesen Stange.
