2013 National Western Angus Carload & Pen Show
Angus producers competed for top honors during the 2013 National Western Stock Show (NWSS) Angus Carload & Pen Show, Jan. 19 in Denver, Colo. Four carloads and 40 pens-of-three were showcased in the Yards during the 107th NWSS.
Rob Thomas, Baker City, Ore.; Rick Blanchard, Firebaugh, Calif.; and John Grimes, Hillsboro, Ohio, evaluated the bulls and selected champions.
Express Angus Ranches, Yukon, Okla., claimed grand champion carload, with 10 January 2012 bulls sired by EXAR Upshot 0562B and Connealy Consensus 7229. The group weighed an average of 1,535 pounds and posted an average scrotal circumference of 42 centimeters.
Vin-Mar Cattle Co., Gordon, Neb., exhibited the reserve grand champion carload with January and February 2012 bulls sired by Sitz Upward 307R; Vin-Mar O’Reilly Factor; Vin-Mar Right Now; and Connealy Consensus 7229. The ten bulls posted an average weight of 1,297 pounds, and an average scrotal circumference of 39.8 centimeters.
Express Angus Ranches showcased the grand champion pen of three with January 2012 sons of EXAR Upshot 0526B and Connealy Consensus 7229. The trio posted an average weight of 1,388 pounds and an average scrotal circumference of 41 centimeters. The bulls first won early calf champion pen of three.
Express Angus Ranches captured the reserve grand champion pen of three title after first winning late calf champion pen of three. The March 2012 sons of Dameron First Impression; Dameron First Class; and PVF Insight 0129 posted an average weight of 1,220 pounds and an average scrotal circumference of 37.7 centimeters.
