LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) – Feedlots in Nebraska and nationwide again reported handling fewer cattle in March, so it’s likely that beef prices will remain high.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture says there were about 2.43 million cattle in Nebraska feedlots on Feb. 1. That figure is 5 percent lower than last year.
Nationally, the number of cattle on feed is down 7 percent at 10.9 million head as of March 1.
The USDA figures are for feedlots with capacity of 1,000 or more.
