Beef promotions to reach food influencers
PIERRE – South Dakota beef checkoff dollars will be heading east to reach a special group of women in Manhattan, the heart of New York City. The South Dakota Beef Industry Council (SDBIC) will partner with the New York Beef Industry Council to fund an event that will provide female foodies-women who have an avid interest in food and food preparation-with practical information on beef cutting, preparation and nutrition. The select group of attendees will come from foodservice, retail, culinary schools, and food media. Social network food bloggers will also be included.
We like the fact that the women targeted with this event have a lot of influence with others in the New York City area, says Frank Volmer, SDBIC director and chairman of the organization’s promotion committee. Targeting today’s food influencers in this high population area is an excellent way to utilize our checkoff dollars to get beef’s positive message to the largest number of consumers.
The New York event was just one of the promotion projects directors decided to fund at the SDBIC’s recent quarterly meeting in Pierre. Additional promotions include a partnership with the Minnesota Beef Council to fund media tours and radio advertising during May Beef Month. The campaign will target consumers in the Twin Cities metropolitan area.
In-state projects receiving funding includes the first-ever Beef Crawl sponsored by Ag United for South Dakota. Held in Rapid City, the event features a progressive dinner for 30 area foodies to enjoy beef dishes with area beef producers and industry professionals, who will be on hand to discuss today’s beef production. SDBIC will also provide beef for the People’s Choice Backyard BBQ Competition of the SD BBQ Championship in Huron this summer.
In other business during the March 26 meeting, SDBIC directors received a research committee update and reports from staff and leadership. The next quarterly meeting is scheduled for June 25 at the Ramkota Inn in Aberdeen.
