Eastern S.D. Soil and Water Research Farm – June 18 near Brookings

The Eastern South Dakota Soil and Water Research Farm will host its 19th annual Field Day on June 18, 3:30 – 5:30 p.m., near Brookings. This year’s program will focus on Soil Microbes: Your Allies in Crop Production. Scientists from the USDA-ARS North Central Agricultural Research Laboratory will present recent research results, and Ralph Holzwarth will offer a producer’s perspective on fostering soil biology to improve productivity. This year’s event will be held at the research farm in Brookings followed by a complimentary dinner.

To get to the research farm, take Exit 133 off I-29 (Hwy 14 Bypass), travel 2.5 miles west to Western Ave.; then 1.5 miles north. Look for the green highway signs along Hwy 14. In case of rain, presentations will be held in the machine shed at the Farm.

CCA CEU’s will be available. Speakers will include:

· Mike Lehman will present the many benefits that soil microbial communities provide to producers

· Wendy Taheri will discuss growing beneficial arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi in your fields

· Kurt Dagel will demonstrate myths and facts of rainfall infiltration in soil

· Ralph Holzwarth will provide a producer’s experience with steps of yield advancement
