Farm Forum

OMAHA, Neb. – The second annual Leading a Legacy Sale – a fundraiser for the National Junior Shorthorn Show, is set to take place Saturday, October 19, 2013 starting with a complimentary prime rib meal at 6 p.m. CST. Hosting the event again this year is Sullivan Farms in Dunlap, Iowa.

An auction of 20 unique lots will begin at 7 p.m. followed by a Vegas Night with 100 percent of the proceeds going towards the National Junior Shorthorn Show. Leading off the auction will be the Foundation Female lot. Donated this year by Sullivan Farms, the Foundation Female is a daughter of SULL GNCC Eldorado and GCC Augusta Pride 3127. Other items to be featured in the auction include: A commercial spot with Stock Show Confidential, a package for a NBA Minnesota Timberwolves game, a guitar signed by Eli Young Band, as well as a photo shoot with Legacy Livestock Imaging, plus more! The auction is designed to offer items that are of everyday use to those who wish to support the Shorthorn juniors.

A special feature of the event this year will be an appearance by the Stock Show Confidential filming crew with Terry Jordan from RFD-TV. They will broadcast the junior fundraiser live and also feature the event in a segment on cattle production sales to air on RFD-TV.

Not only is John Sullivan of Sullivan Farms looking forward to the RFD-TV crew being on-site for the junior fundraiser, but he is very proud of the outcome of the inaugural sale held at the farm last year.

“The amount of support from juniors and breeders was incredible,” he said. “The junior national means a lot to Shorthorn kids and the results proved that.”

In its first year, the Leading a Legacy Sale grossed over $56,000 for the Shorthorn Junior National. The crowd in attendance enjoyed a guest appearance by “Elvis” plus a Vegas Night to close out the evening. Guests this year can expect to partake in similar activities with anticipated appearances by “Marilyn Monroe” and “Michael Jackson”.
