2013 North Dakota small grain acreage and production

FARGO, N.D. – Other spring wheat production for 2013 is estimated at 232.8 million bushels, down 9 percent from last year, according to the USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service. The 2013 area harvested for grain, at 5.06 million acres, is down 11 percent from 2012. Producers planted 5.10 million acres, also down 11 percent from 2012. The yield of 46.0 bushels per acre is up 1 bushel from a year ago.

Durum wheat production is estimated at 29.3 million bushels, down 31 percent from 2012. Harvested acres, at 770,000, are down 42 percent from last year. Area planted is 795,000 acres, down 41 percent from 2012. The yield of 38.0 bushels per acre is 6.0 bushels above 2012.

Winter wheat production is estimated at 8.8 million bushels, down 78 percent from last year. The area harvested for grain totaled 205,000 acres, down 72 percent from 2012. Planted acreage totaled 220,000 down 71 percent from a year earlier. The yield is 43.0 bushels per acre, down 12.0 bushels from 2012.

All wheat production is estimated at 270.8 million bushels, down 20 percent from 2012. The area harvested for grain totaled 6.04 million acres, down 22 percent from last year. Planted acreage is 6.12 million, also down 22 percent from 2012. The average yield is 44.9 bushels per acre, up 1.2 bushels from last year.

Barley production is estimated at 46.1 million bushels, down 25 percent from 2012. Area harvested for grain, at 720,000 acres, is down 29 percent from last year. Planted acreage totaled 760,000, down 28 percent from 2012. Average yield is 64.0 bushels per acre, 3.0 bushels above last year.

Oat production is estimated at 8.4 million bushels, 23 percent above 2012. Area harvested for grain, at 135,000 acres, is up 23 percent from last year. Planted acreage totaled 225,000, up 13 percent from a year earlier. Estimated yield is 62.0 bushels per acre, unchanged from 2012.
