SIOUX FALLS – Other spring wheat production for 2013 is estimated at 51.3 million bushels, up 23 percent from last year, according to the USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service. The 2013 area harvested for grain, at 1.17 million acres, is up 14 percent from 2012. Producers planted 1.19 million acres, up 10 percent from a year earlier. The yield of 44.0 bushels per acre is 3.0 bushels above a year ago.

Winter wheat production is estimated at 26.1 million bushels, down 57 percent from 2012. Harvested acres, at 670,000 are down 45 percent from last year. Planted area totaled 1.30 million acres, down 2 percent from 2012. The yield of 39.0 bushels per acre is 11.0 bushels below 2012.

Durum wheat production is estimated at 168,000 bushels, up 46 percent from last year. The area harvested for grain totaled 4,000 acres, down 20 percent from 2012. Planted acreage is also 4,000, down 20 percent from a year ago. The yield is 42.0 bushels per acre, up 19.0 bushels from 2012.

All wheat production in 2013, at 77.6 million bushels, is down 24 percent from last year. Area harvested for grain, at 1.84 million acres, is down 18 percent from last year. Planted acreage is 2.49 million, up 4 percent from 2012. The all wheat yield of 42.2 bushels is down 3.6 bushels from last year.

Oat production in 2013, at 9.2 million bushels, is up 172 percent from last year. The area harvested for grain totaled 120,000 acres, up 140 percent from 2012. Planted acreage totaled 260,000, up 63 percent from a year earlier. Yield, at 77.0 bushels per acre, is up 9 bushels from last year.

Barley production totaled 990,000 bushels, up 25 percent from last year. Area harvested for grain, at 18,000 acres, is down 18 percent from 2012. Area planted totaled 34,000, the same as a year ago. Yield, at 55.0 bushels per acre, is up 19 bushels from last year.
