Northern Plains Sustainable Ag Society Winter Conference Jan. 23-25 in Aberdeen

LaMoure, N.D. – Northern Plains Sustainable Ag Society is pleased to announce our 35th annual winter conference to be held in Aberdeen, S.D. The annual event will include trade show vendors, educational breakout sessions, and nationally renowned keynote speakers.

The event is scheduled January 23-25, 2014, and will be held at the Ramkota Inn. This conference is a great opportunity for organic farmers and processors to network, keep up to date on the latest information, research and to showcase their products.

“This conference attracts more people every year,” says NPSAS Executive Director Karri Stroh. “We make it worthwhile for everyone who is attending. We have educational tracts for producers and consumers, as well as the marketer.”

Keynote Speakers: NPSAS will once again feature two outstanding speakers this year. Will Winter, DVM, owner of Grassfarmer Supply in Cannon Falls, Minn., a full service outlet for livestock nutrition and health products, consulting for livestock, forages and soils and related services. Melinda Hemmelgarn is a registered dietitian and “investigative nutritionist” who connects the dots between food, health and agriculture. Melinda is also an award-winning journalist, and host of nationally syndicated Food Sleuth Radio.

Other Features of the 2014 Conference

Pre-conference Workshops: Three pre-conference workshops will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2014 from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m.

• Raising Produce for Farmers Market, CSA and Other Markets – Ryan Pesch

• Getting Ancient Grains to Market – NPSAS Farm Breeding Club

Networking Opportunities & Workshops: More than 40 workshops will be offered on a variety of topics such as: livestock, hog and lamb production, poultry, gardening, growing herbs, soap making, greenhouses, wine making, fermentation, soil health, weed control, cover crops, local foods and more!

Meals & Entertainment: Two full days of meals will be offered for conference attendees featuring locally grown and organically sourced ingredients. Entertainment will be provided by Holly Hoffman –“Dealing with Challenges in Life” at Friday’s evening meal. Our very own Homegrown Entertainment Performers will provide Saturday’s evening entertainment.
