South Dakota chefs to compete in Pork Taste of Elegance
SIOUX FALLS — The South Dakota Pork Producers Council announces their 26th Annual Taste of Elegance competition to be held on Sunday, Jan. 19 at the Sioux Falls Convention Center. The Taste of Elegance is a culinary competition that encourages chefs to create innovative and exciting recipes using pork. A panel of three esteemed chefs, Celebrated Chef Charlie Torgerson, VP Operations/Owner/Operator of four Famous Dave’s Franchises and Owner of American Restaurant Consultants; St Paul, MN, Chef Benjamin Klinkle, Tally Silver Spoon; Rapid City, SD, Tim McCarty, Executive Chef at the Mayo Foundation, Rochester, MN and Celebrated Chef Michael Foley, Chicago, IL will judge the entrées of 7 chefs based on originality, appearance and taste.
The first place winner receives an engraved plate, $1,000, and will attend the NPB Pork Summit that will be held in St. Helena, California in the Napa Valley at the Culinary Institute of America’s Greystone Campus from April 4 – 6, 2014.
The chefs prepare samples of their entrées for an evening event. A 5:00 PM Social Hour includes wine tasting from three of South Dakota’s area wineries. Along with the wine tasting guests may taste several different types of cheeses from Dimock Cheese. At 6:00 PM, entrées can be sampled and guests can vote for the People’s Choice Award. The awards and winners will be announced later that evening. To end the event attendees can enjoy a delicious cupcake from the famous Oh My Cupcakes. There is also a silent auction going on during the event and the proceeds from the auction benefit The Banquet of Sioux Falls.
Tickets are sold in advance. With this event having such popularity, the event has been sold out again for 2014.
Chefs from some of the state’s finest kitchens will be competing, including Chef Sam Brink from Minnehaha Country Club, Sioux Falls; Chef Gabriel Rivero from AZTECA Restaurant, Sioux Falls; Chef Jesse Schunneman from Ground Round, Brookings; Chef Ryan Hembree from Trail Ridge Retirement Community; Sioux Falls; Chef Jason Odegaard from Countryview Catering, DeSmit; Chef John Gilbertson CEC, ACE from Sanford Health; Sioux Falls and Chef Patrick Parker from 1481 Grille; Arlington.
