South Dakota

SIOUX FALLS — Milk production in South Dakota during the October- December 2013 quarter totaled 511 million pounds, up 14 million pounds from the October- December quarter last year, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. The average number of milk cows, at 95,000 head, was up 3,000 head from the October-December 2012 quarter.

North Dakota

FARGO, N.D. — Milk production in North Dakota for the October – December 2013 quarter totaled 81 million pounds, down 7 percent from 87 million pounds during the same period a year earlier, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. The average number of milk cows, at 17,000 head, was down 1,000 head from the October-December 2012 quarter.

Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. — Milk production in Nebraska during the October- December 2013 quarter totaled 284 million pounds, down 13 million pounds from the October- December quarter last year, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. The average number of milk cows, at 53,000 head, was down 2,000 head from the October-December 2012 quarter.

Iowa

Milk production in Iowa during December 2013 totaled 385 million pounds, down less than 1 percent from December 2012, according to the USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service – Milk Production report. The average number of milk cows during December, at 206,000 head, was 1,000 more than last year. Production per cow averaged 1,870 pounds, 20 pounds lower than in December 2012.

Minnesota

Milk production in Minnesota during December 2013 totaled 766 million pounds, down 3 percent from December 2012, according to the USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service – Milk Production report. The average number of milk cows during December, at 460,000 head, was 5,000 fewer than last year and 2,000 fewer than last month. Production per cow averaged 1,665 pounds, 25 pounds lower than in December 2012.
