PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — The South Dakota Senate has unanimously approved a bill to license businesses that help home brewers make and bottle malt beverages and wine.

It has already passed the House and goes next to Gov. Dennis Daugaard for final review.

The bill would require a $250 license for businesses that provide equipment and expertise to home brewers.

The bill’s sponsor says two such businesses exist in the state. He says this bill allows the state to address the issue before the industry expands.

It prohibits the beverages from being consumed at the business site.

Existing law states that home brewers can produce up to 200 gallons for personal use a year and they cannot sell it.
