Anhydrous ammonia leak reported over the weekend
Columbia’s fire chief said Monday that an undetermined amount of anhydrous ammonia was spilled over the weekend as an area farmer was transporting the substance south of the small Brown County town.
Corey Mitchell said a call came in for spill response just after 3 p.m. Sunday. The spill occurred about 2 miles south of Columbia near the intersection of 396th Avenue and 124th Street.
Mitchell, who reported no injuries from the apparent accident, said the site has been cleared and the spill contained. A representative of the Brown County Sheriff’s Office said Monday that the agency is investigating the incident.
