Celebrate Beef Month at participating Hy-Vee Stores and Sam’s Club

PIERRE — With Beef Month in full swing, beef lovers can take advantage of the many celebrations happening across the country and in the state of South Dakota. The American National CattleWomen (ANCW) have teamed up with Sam’s Club to conduct 200 beef cooking demonstrations and serve beef samples between April 11 and Sept. 30.

In South Dakota, the South Dakota Beef Industry Council (SDBIC) is taking part in these beef demos at participating Sam’s Club locations, including Rapid City and Sioux Falls. SDBIC will be passing out recipe ideas, nutritional brochures and ideas for how to incorporate beef into a summer grilling menu. At these demos, consumers can sample beef recipes featuring beef cuts such as the Member’s Mark Strip Steak or Member’s Mark Tenderloin Steak.

Recipes include Sonoma Steak with Vegetables Boccocini, Beef Steak Sandwich Fold-Ups, Succulent Filet in a Field of Greens, Top Loin with Red Wine Sauce, and Hoisin BBQ Steak-On-A-Stick with Pineapple Salsa. All recipes can be found at www.beefitswhatsfordinner.com.

In addition to partnering with ANCW and Sam’s Club, during May Beef Month, SDBIC has beef promotions planned at Hy-Vee stores, as well.

“In April, all eight Hy-Vee locations that have Registered Dietitian (RD) Services were offered May Beef Month promotional materials based off of the Supermarket RD Research Project’s resources recently conducted by the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association,” said Holly Swee, SDBIC director of nutrition and consumer information.

Working with Hy-Vee’s RD’s allows the SDBIC to share with consumers how beef plays a role as a part of a healthy, well-balanced diet.

“Seven of the eight stores utilized the promotional packages we put together, which included the Hy-Vee Go Tasty-Go Lean Top Sirloin recipes and 93% Lean Ground Beef,” added Swee. “RD’s were encouraged to work with their individual store meat managers to provide corresponding sales for these beef cuts to help increase sales for those products. Additional promotional items were also offered such as, ‘Hy-Vee RD’s Pick’ cards, suggested social media messages and posts, instant-read meat thermometers and “Confident Cooking with Beef” brochures, to name a few. Hy-Vee Beef Cooking Classes were also held through the month as well.”
