BROOKINGS — Paul O. Johnson has been appointed to fill the SDSU Extension Weed Science Extension Associate position.

Johnson is not new to SDSU Extension. He has served SDSU Extension for most of his career, first working in Integrated Pest Management and most recently as an SDSU Extension Agronomy Field Specialist.

Throughout his entire career, Johnson has been actively involved in weed management and was on a team who developed the long-running 525 Weed Control fact sheet series. In this new role as SDSU Extension Weed Science Extension Associate, his work will focus on providing research-based information on weed control measures that will work for agriculture producers and homeowners alike.

“Although I will focus on all aspects of weed control, I will apply a strong emphasis to dealing with Glyphosate type resistant weeds, which is a challenge many South Dakota crop producers are working to overcome,” Johnson said. “I enjoy working with South Dakotans and helping them control weeds whether it’s around the home, farm or ranch.”
