Sunflower growers say 13 percent of crop planted
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The National Sunflower Association says sunflower planting in North Dakota is up from last year after a late start, but is still down compared to the state’s five-year average.
So far the group says state sunflower farmers have gotten 13 percent of their crop in the ground, compared to 11 percent at this time last year. The five-year average is 23 percent.
Growers in Texas have gotten 50 percent in the ground while sunflower planters in Colorado have planted just 3 percent of their crop.
