Northern Plains Livestock Show June 14 in Aberdeen

Northern Plains Livestock Day will begin early Saturday, June 14, in the Brown County Expo building at the Brown County Fairgrounds.

The event is hosted by the Agriculture Committee of the Aberdeen Area Chamber of Commerce. The planning committee consists of Eric Payne, Becca Tullar, Lance Vilhauer, Glenn Jakober, Monica Mandernach and Emily Richardt.

Included are a Market Goat Show, Jackpot Market Lamb, a Junior No Fit Show, and a Progress Steer and Heifer show. New this year is a showmanship competition in all events.

The Market Goat Show will be start off the day’s activities at 10 a.m. This show is for meat goats only and there will be no breed designations. Does and wethers will be shown together and broken down by weight classes. Grand Champion goat will receive $200 cash award and a jacket. Reserve Champion goat will receive $100 cash award and a jacket. Cash payouts will also be given in each weight class.In the Jackpot Market Lamb show, Grand Champion Lamb receives $200 cash award and a jacket. Reserve Champion receives $100 cash award and a jacket. Cash payouts will also be given in each division. The Junior No Fit show was started to give young people a chance to begin showing livestock without having to compete against experienced competitors from the show circuit.

Junior No-Fit Show entries close at 11 a.m. Show time will immediately follow the Jackpot Market Lamb Show. Grand Champion Steer receives $75 cash award. Reserve Champion $50. Grand Champion Heifer receives $75 cash award. Reserve Champion $50. Entries for the Progress Steer and Heifer show close at 11 a.m. Showtime will be immediately following Jr. No Fit Division, approximately 2 p.m. Fitting is optional. All entries are required to lead and tie.
