ABERDEEN, S.D. — All children ages 6-13 are invited to attend South Dakota Farmers Union’s District III & VII Summer Camp scheduled for July 27-30, 2014 at Lake Richmond near Aberdeen, S.D. Districts III & VII includes Brookings, Clark, Codington, Day, Deuel, Grant, Hamlin, Kingsbury, Marshall, Roberts, Beadle, Brown, Campbell, Edmunds, Faulk, Hand, Hughes, Hyde, McPherson, Potter, Spink, Sully and Walworth. This year’s camp is themed ‘It’s a Bird, It’s a Plane, It’s Cooperation,’ and will include interactive games and activities that teach children about the benefits of cooperative business, agriculture and working together.

“Young people who attend this year’s District III & VII camp will come away with a better understanding of the importance of cooperation,” said Barb Vetter, District VII Education Director. “They will have the opportunity to learn more about cooperative business and how they can work together to solve problems in their daily lives.”

The three-day camp is filled with interactive games, singing, crafts, and tour day with a visit to Storybook Land, swimming, bowling and many other camp traditions.

In celebration of the United Nation’s International Year of Family Farming, activities are also developed to teach campers about South Dakota agriculture and the impact it has on our daily lives. Each camper will have the opportunity to write a thank you letter to South Dakota farmers.

Through hands-on crafts and interactive games youth will learn about how cooperatives work, develop team work and leadership skills. Each child will also receive a free T-shirt.

Registration is $35 for SDFU members (Farmers Union membership dues are $50 per calendar year), and $70 for non-members. Pre-registration is required and a limited number of registrations will be accepted. Campers should pre-register by July 21 by sending registration and medical release forms to S.D.
