EDGEMONT, S.D. (AP) — Opponents of a proposed site in Fall River County for oil-contaminated soil hope to force a public vote on the matter.
The County Commission recently approved the 5-acre site near Edgemont being proposed by High Plains Resources. The project still needs state permits.
Opponents worry about possible harm to the environment. Rancher Susan Henderson tells the Rapid City Journal that the opposition group is confident it will get the necessary 257 petition signatures to put a referendum on the Nov. 4 general election ballot.
