Pork sandwiches grilled at Lynn’s Dakotamart in Pierre

Pierre, SD — In preparation for the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, South Dakota pork producers grilled up over 600 free pork loin sandwiches on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at Lynn’s Dakotamart in Pierre. It was a beautiful day for a pork feed.

The South Dakota Pork Producers Council will be in the Black Hills area for its ninth year as “Pork, The Official Meat” of the 2014 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Come and join over 40 pork farmers grilling delicious pork chop sandwiches for four days at area Lynn’s DakotaMart stores and Walgreen’s.

On Saturday, August 2nd, the South Dakota pork producers will grill at both the Belle Fourche and Hot Springs Lynn’s Dakotamart stores where sandwiches will be available starting at 11:00 AM. Free pork sandwiches will be available again on Sunday, August 3rd, in front of the Sturgis Lynn’s Dakotamart store. Sandwiches will be grilled beginning at 11:00 AM. Come by and pick up delicious grilled pork sandwiches on Monday, August 4th, at Lynn’s Dakotamart store in Lead and Walgreen’s in Spearfish starting at 11:00 AM. The producers conclude their pork promotions on Tuesday, August 5th, in front of the Lazelle Street Sturgis Dakotamart store starting at 11:00 AM. The South Dakota Pork Producers will be grilling over 2,400 pounds of pork over the entire weekend in Sturgis and surrounding areas, which is made possible by South Dakota Pork Producers, National Pork Board, Walgreen’s, Meat Lodge, South Dakota Soybean Research and Promotion Council and Lynn’s Dakotamart stores.

South Dakota ranks eleventh in the nation for pork production and is ranked first in pigs per sow. South Dakota ranks ninth nationally in the number of pigs born in the state. South Dakota’s 170,000 sows raise over 3.8 million hogs per year. South Dakota hogs consume 315,000 tons of soybean meal and 52 million bushels of corn. The vast majority (98 percent) of the hog farms in South Dakota are family owned and operated. South Dakota’s pork industry contributes $520 million annually to the state’s economy and provides 7,900 jobs.
