SDSU weeds group at the South Dakota State Fair
BROOKINGS — The SDSU WEED project will be at the South Dakota State Fair to answer your questions again this year.
The project will feature the amaranth “pigweed” species.
“There is a lot of confusion on what species we have in the state and how we can control them,” said Paul O. Johnson, SDSU Extension Weed Science Coordinator.
The SDSU WEED project serves as growers’ one-stop location to have their questions answered by experts.
“The SDSU WEED project has provided this service to the citizens of South Dakota at the fair for close to 50 years,” Johnson said.
For the last 40-plus years this has been featured in the Expo Building located in the southeast corner at the South Dakota State Fair.
Along with the pigweed display there will be a noxious weeds display and a lawn and garden area.
The display will have several publications that visitors can take home to read up and learn more.
Most of the information that will be made available during the State Fair can also be found online at www.iGrow.org. The South Dakota State Fair is Aug. 28 through Sept.1, 2014.
