SDSU Extension and Hutterite teachers to host farm safety program

BROOKINGS — SDSU Extension partnered with White Rock Hutterite Colony teachers to provide two educational programs for students at the White Rock Colony School.

The programs focused on babysitting safety and farm safety.

“This was a great opportunity to share two valuable programs with students attending this school,” said Tracey Lehrke, SDSU Extension 4-H Youth Program Advisor who helped organize the two programs.

Topics covered during the Kid Kare workshop included: infant care and First Aid & choking and was led by the Roberts County Community health nurse, Morgan Rinke; Kid Kare in the Kitchen led by Linda Quade, Roberts County SDSU Extension Family Nutrition Program Assistant and fun activities & toy safety, tools to guide behavior and the 5 Bs of Babysitting which was led by Lehrke.

The following day’s Farm Safety educational program was led by Emma Christensen, Farm Credit Services of America Outreach Coordinator and Lehrke. Topics included chemical, animal, and tractor safety.

These educational sessions ended with a presentation by Janie Nyswonger and Jason Madsen from the Northeast Ambulance, which gave the students an opportunity to tour the inside of the ambulance and see how all the equipment works.
