South Dakota Bid Calling Contest results

The SDAA bid calling contest was held at the South Dakota State Fair in Huron, S.D., on August 31, 2014. We had 12 contestants: Jon Millar of Sturgis, S.D., Brent Ulmer of Ashley, N.D., Mike Girard of Wakonda, S.D., Bill Eckert of Okaton, S.D., Don Curtis of Mitchell, S.D., Ted Souvignier of Canton, S.D., John McDowell of Rapid City, S.D., Brett Heath of Colome, S.D., Glenn Truautmann II of Sabin, Minn., Sam McCloud of Hoven, S.D., Lewis Reuer of Bowdle, S.D., and Tim Reindl of Custer, S.D.

Each contestant brought 3 items of their choice to sell with proceeds going to the Auctioneers Association. With the scores being very close, we had a tie which bought back four contestants in the final round. Items for the finals where chosen from the South Dakota 4-H Foundation Auction items.

The four finalists were Lewis Reuer, Sam McCloud, Brent Ulmer and Jon Millar. Their first round of scores where not used in the finals. Coming out the 2014 SDAA Bid Calling Champion was Jon Millar, 1st Runner up Brent Ulmer and 2nd runner up Lewis Reuer.

Our judges this year where Janelle Bischoff of Huron, S.D., Darrel Reuer of Huron, S.D., Scott Moore of Centerville, S.D., Randy Steinke of Colome, S.D., Merlyn Siegfried of Watertown, S.D. We raised $7,248.50 for the S.D. 4-H Foundation. Thank you to all who attended and helped in any way.
