Junior Red Angus members across the country prepare themselves as the Red Angus Young Stockman Program draws near. This two-day program includes field trips, guest speakers and hands-on innovative learning to educate young men and women about the cattle industry.

The 2015 Junior Red Angus Association (JRA) Young Stockman Program occurs during the National Western Stock Show (NWSS) in Denver, Colo., in conjunction with the Red Angus events. Active members who are under the age of 21 have the opportunity to attend.

The event starts on Thursday, Jan. 8, with a field trip to JBS/Five Rivers Cattle Company Kuner feedyard, Kersey, Colo., and to Leachman Cattle Company of Colorado, Wellington, Colo. After a fun-filled day of tours, Thursday will wind down with a pizza party and a Beef Quiz Bowl competition at the headquarters for Red Angus, the DoubleTree Hotel.

Friday, Jan. 9, involves Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) training at the Agricultural Research, Development and Education Center at the Colorado State University campus in Fort Collins, Colo. Attendees will be divided into small groups and work through six different stations to complete BQA training and certification as part of the Red Angus Young Stockman Program.

Registration for the Young Stockman Program costs $75 for each attendee and the fee will be billed to the junior’s JRA account (late registration at $100 will be accepted until Nov. 10). Registered attendees will receive a microfiber jacket during the program. Junior members also have the chance to be awarded the first Heather Presser Memorial Scholarship of $500 to help defray travel and registration expenses to attend the Young Stockman Program.

The deadline to register for the program and the scholarship is Nov. 1, 2014, at 11:59 p.m. Central Time. For registration and scholarship details, visit RedAngus.org
