South Dakota Pork Producers Council announces the 2015 Dedicated and Distinguished Service Award Recipient

SIOUX FALLS, SD – The South Dakota Pork Producers Council (SDPPC) honored Dave Uttecht of Huron, South Dakota with the Dedicated and Distinguished Service Award at the Council’s Awards Luncheon on January 15, 2015. “The Dedicated and Distinguished Service Award recognizes an individual who provides outstanding and dedicated service to South Dakota’s pork industry; and Dave certainly has demonstrated this type of service. We are proud to honor him with this award,” commented SDPPC executive board member and association services and membership committee chairman, Mark Fuoss of Armour.

Dave Uttecht of Huron, SD started in pig production growing up on the family farm near Woonsocket, SD. He attended SD State University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science in 1990 and a Master’s in Swine Nutrition in 1992. After graduation, he moved to Norfolk, Nebraska and worked as a Swine Specialist for Land O Lakes Feed. Late in 1993, he returned to the Alpena, SD area to help create Heartland Pork, LLC and became its Managing Partner. The original single site farm with 800 sows farrow to finish has grown to a production system with 6500 sows, 16 farm locations and numerous cooperating farmers.

Dave served on the SDPPC executive board from 2000 to 2010, serving as President in 2007 and 2008. He was named a Master Pork Producer in 1996, Pork All American in 2000, and has represented SD as a Pork Forum delegate several times. Dave is currently serving on Public Policy and Production Profitability Committees, and Governor Dennis Daugaard’s Ag Advisory Committee. Dave was a catalyst for SDPPC’s involvement in creating the new SDSU Swine Research and Education Center.

Dave and his wife Angie have two children. Lauren is a 2014 graduate of SDSU in Dietetics, and is currently interning at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell. Andrew is a freshman at SD School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City, majoring in Applied Biological Sciences. Angie is the Managing Broker/Owner of Ace Realty selling real estate in Huron and the surrounding area.
