BROOKINGS — SDSU Extension and Farm Service Agency (FSA) will host informational Farm Bill Meetings throughout the state beginning Feb. 2, 2015 to provide agriculture producers with information on farm bill choices and requirements.

“The February 27, 2015 deadline for the 2014 farm bill is fast approaching and producers need to become informed on their choices for the 2014 program and to not miss the opportunity to update yields and reallocate base acres for their farms,” said Jack Davis, SDSU Extension Crops Business Management Field Specialist. “These opportunities do not come around very often so it is a good idea for producers to take a look at them and see if it fits for their individual farm.”

The meetings will provide producers with an explanation of updating yields, base acre reallocation and election of programs between Agricultural Risk Coverage-County (ARC_CO), Agricultural Risk Coverage-Individual (ARC_IC), and Price Loss Coverage (PLC).

Davis encouraged producers to attend the sessions to learn about Farm Bill decision tools. SDSU Extension, Farm Service Agency and the South Dakota Center for Farm Ranch Management have partnered to bring South Dakota producers podcasts on the farm bill choices.
