May is Community Action Month
“Community Action Month is a wonderful time to honor and celebrate the impact Community Action has in the lives of families and communities across South Dakota,” stated Marcia Erickson, GROW South Dakota CEO. “GROW South Dakota along with three other partnering community action agencies across South Dakota are successful every day in helping families achieve economic security. Given that the needs of each family and community are unique, Community Action is able to use a range of resources and programs to meet local needs in creative and impactful ways.”
GROW South Dakota also known as Northeast South Dakota Community Action Program was established in 1966 to wage the war on poverty in Northeast South Dakota by promoting self-sufficiency for those of limited income. GROW South Dakota has been successful in assisting low-income veterans, senior citizens, families and children.
Annually, GROW South Dakota helps over 10,000 individuals to improve their lives by providing them essential services and life-changing opportunities through Individual Development Accounts, financial education, down payment assistance, and access to capital for starting a small business, as well as making available affordable housing, regional economic development, emergency assistance, access to affordable health care, energy assistance, and so much more.
