All youth ages 6-13 are invited to attend South Dakota Farmers Union’s District III & VII Summer Camp scheduled for July 26-29 at Richmond Lake near Aberdeen.

Farmers Union Districts III & VII include the Brookings, Clark, Codington/Hamlin, Day, Deuel/Grant, Kingsbury, Marshall, Roberts, Beadle, Brown, Campbell, Edmunds, Faulk, Hand, Hughes, Hyde, McPherson, Potter, Spink, Sully, and Walworth counties. This year’s camp celebrates South Dakota Farmers Union’s centennial with the theme, Growing Stronger with Cooperation, Celebrating 100 Years. Youth attending camp will have the opportunity to participate in interactive games and activities that teach them about the benefits of cooperative business, agriculture and working together.

“Young people who attend this year’s District III & VII camp will come away with a better understanding of the role cooperatives play in our state,” said Barb Vetter, District VII Education Director. “Youth will celebrate diversity found within our state’s agriculture industry and how they can become involved.”

The four-day camp is filled with interactive games, singing, crafts, camp fires and many other camp traditions. Tour day will include swimming, bowling, and a trip to storybook land with a picnic. Campers will need $5-$10 spending money for the Co-op Store, plus approximately $15 for Tour Day Expenses. Also, campers should bring a swimming suit and towel for swimming, and socks for bowling.

In celebration of Farmers Union’s centennial, activities are also developed to teach each camper about the impact agriculture has on their daily lives. Through hands-on crafts and interactive games, youth will learn about how cooperatives work and develop team work and leadership skills. Each child will also receive a free T-shirt courtesy of Farmers Union Insurance Agency.

“This camp is designed for fun, learning and to give campers the opportunity to make lifelong friends,” said Bonnie Geyer, South Dakota Farmers Union State Education Director. “Camp is a safe place to learn, laugh and grow their personalities.”

All youth are welcome. Send registration and medical release form to S.D. Farmers Union, Attn: Bonnie Geyer, PO Box 1388, Huron, S.D. 57350, by July 20. Parents and members are invited to a supper and program at 6 p.m. July 28. Preregistration is required.
