Farms After Five tours allows community to explore a fresh perspective on food
SIOUX FALLS, SD – Community members will explore a fresh perspective on food by visiting local farms on July 23. Participants will spend an evening touring beef and dairy farms in the Garretson area. The free tour will give participants the opportunity to see a farm in action, and speak with the farmers that grow their food. Each participant will receive $50 in grocery gift cards and additional door prizes will be awarded the night of the event.
Visitors will have the opportunity to tour the farm and speak with local farmers and other agricultural experts. Tour participants will also be served a meal, and each family will receive $50 in food gift certificates. In addition, guests will also have the opportunity to engage in a conversation about advances in technology used to grow food.
South Dakota Farm Families and CommonGround have partnered to host summer bus tours since 2010. Over the past five years more than 500 people have taken time to join a bus tour and learn more about the importance of agriculture in South Dakota. Each South Dakota farmer grows enough food to feed 155 people for a year. Visit www.agunited.org to learn more about food, farming, and the role agriculture plays in our state.
The farm doors are open, but space for this event is limited. To sign up for this tour visit http://www.agunited.org/2015FarmTours. To keep up with this and other events follow us at South Dakota Farm Families on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest.
The event is sponsored in part by South Dakota Farm Families and Ag United, Midwest Dairy Association, South Dakota Beef Industry Council, South Dakota Pork Producers and South Dakota soybean farmers and their check-off.
