Volunteers needed for the Brown County Fair
Aberdeen — The 80th anniversary of the Brown County Fair is quickly approaching. Fair dates are August 10-16, 2015. This is your opportunity to get involved and be a part of the action. The Brown County Fair is seeking volunteers over the age of 18 to help before, during and after the fair. “We are looking for volunteers from all walks of life to share their time, skills and expertise,” states Karla Pfeifer, Brown County Fair Manager. “Whether you are able to donate a few hours, a full day or a few hours on multiple days or evenings, we could certainly use your help,” according to Pfeifer.
The Brown County Fair is the region’s largest annual event. One of the major factors in making the fair a success is the Brown County Fair Board. Without their volunteerism, dedication and commitment to the fair, we simply wouldn’t be able to produce a week-long event of this magnitude. The Fair Board members and their families volunteer hundreds of hours throughout the year preparing for, working during and after the fair. “Their dedication and fortitude is truly exceptional,” states Pfeifer. More than 150 “Friends of the Fair” volunteers also assist during the fair.
The Fair Board consists of 25 members who serve on 13 committees. Each of the committees are looking for volunteers before the fair to assist with preparatory work including set-up, assistance with painting, cleaning and moving picnic tables, displays and benches, preparing the grandstand area and fairgrounds buildings, landscaping and gardening, assistance with mailings and clerical duties, just to name a few. There truly is something for everyone’s skill set and talents. We are asking for volunteers to help with a variety of tasks prior to and during the fair. Volunteers are also needed after the fair to assist with teardown, loading and clean-up. “This is the perfect opportunity for fair enthusiasts, businesses and previous fair board members to give back and be a part of the success of the 2015 Brown County Fair,” according to Pfeifer.
