Junior Exhibitors Show National Champion Shorthorns at National Junior Shorthorn Show and Youth Conference

Grand Island, NE — Junior Shorthorn exhibitors from 22 states, arrived in Grand Island, Neb. over the week of June 20 – June 25 to enter the “All Roads Lead to Grand Island” World Series themed 2015 National Junior Shorthorn Show & Youth Conference.

A total of 626 head of cattle were exhibited at the Nebraska State Fairgrounds competing in eight different shows: Owned Purebred Females, Bred & Owned Females, Bred & Owned Bulls, Purebred Cow/Calf Pairs, ShorthornPlus Cow/Calf Pairs, Purebred Steers, ShorthornPlus Steers, and ShorthornPlus Females. Evaluating the owned were, Shane Bedwell of Colo. with assistance from Curtis Doubet of Colo., assessing the bred and owned shows was Charlie Boyd of Ky. and judging the ShorthornPlus show was Lydell Meiers of Tenn.

Bringing home Junior National Supreme Champion Shorthorn Female honors amidst 241 other purebred Shorthorn females was CYT DREAM LADY AV 4141 ET, owned by Sara Rose Sullivan of Dunlap, Iowa. This Division VI winner, born February 2014, is a daughter of LITTLE CEDAR AVIATOR 503X. Sara Rose Sullivan of Dunlap, Iowa also had the Reserve National Champion Shorthorn Female, SULL BO’S MARTHA 4101 ET, a March 2014 daughter of SULL RED KNIGHT 2030 ET.

Sixty-seven females were shown in the Bred & Owned Female Show, in which Sara Rose Sullivan, Dunlap, Iowa, took home Grand Champion Female honors with SULL LUCY’S CRYSTAL ET, this September 2013 heifer is sired by SULL RIGHT DIRECTION ET and dammed by SULL CRYSTAL’S LUCY ET. CVF LADY ELSA 39B ET captured Reserve Champion honors. The March 2014 heifer was shown by Alexandria Raab, Markle, Ind. CVF LADY ELSA 39B ET was sired by DF COULD 9 with dam CVF LADY DIANA 55X ET.

On July 22, 72 ShorthornPlus Females walked in the ring. SULL MISS RIGHT DIRECTION was selected as the Supreme Grand Champion ShorthornPlus Female shown by Madison McCormick. This Division V winner is sired by SULL RIGHT DIRECTION ET with dam SULLPLAYFUL SARA 0880, born September 2013. Claiming the Reserve Champion title was Payton Vogel with his January 2014 heifer, MAV FELICITY 408B ET, a HI VIEW’S ACE OF DIAMONDS daughter with dam MAV FELICITY 137L 3/4.

With a great turnout in the Cow/Calf shows this year with Grand Champion Purebred Cow/Calf honors going toCLF Proud Fool 1207 ET, and her calf BRH CLF Proud Fool 1506. The 2012-born cow is the offspring of JA COMMOTION HC 0J04 and her February 2015 calf is sired by CLF PROUD FOOL 1207 ET. This pair is owned by Ben Harner of Xenia, Ohio. In the reserve slot was J&M Secret Rose and her calf J&M Secret Rose Legend. This 2013-born cow is the offspring of SULL SECRET ROSE 8184 ET and her April 2015 calf is out of KWK NITRO LEGEND. Kevin Judge of Perkins, Okla. exhibited this duo.

Grand Champion ShorthornPlus Cow/Calf was exhibited by Faye Smith, Walton, Kan. M BAR CASTLE PRINCESS 306, 2013 cow out of M BAR CASTLEROCK 722T, and her calf M BAR FLS PRINCESS PAGE was born February 2015 and sired by CONNEALY FRONT PAGE 0228.

In the Purebred Bred and Owned Bull Show LANE’S MR COLT stole the show by taking home Grand Champion Bull. He was exhibited by Ryan Lane, Jay, Okla. This November 2013, bull is sired by ELBEE THROWBACK 040W. GCS PRINCE CHARMING took Reserve Champion honors and was exhibited by Rosemary Thompson of Gilman, Iowa. This January 2015 bull is sired by MAV BELLRINGER 804U 7/8.

The Grand Champion Shorthorn Market Steer honor went to FSF Asset B7 ET, sired by SULL GNCC ASSET ET, was shown by Landon Richards, Pemberville, Ohio. The Reserve Grand Champion Market Steer was SS NINER 432, sired by KOLT KANE NITRO 133Y. This calf was shown by Tejlor Strope of O’Neill, Neb.

NIKKEL LUCKY 406, shown by Jacob Nikkel of McPherson, Kan. was named the Grand Champion Bred and Owned Steer. He was sired by JAKE’S PROUD JAZZ 266L. The Reserve Grand Champion Bred and Owned Steer honors went to Lexi Wetzel of Faribault, Minn., with her steer WGR RUDY. This steer was sired by SULL PAYDAY 1507 ET.

The Grand Champion ShorthornPlus Steer went to HCCM ROAN by Benjamin Nikkel of McPherson, Kan. Nikkel’s steer was sired by GOLD RUSH. Courtney Scholting of Gretna, Neb. took home Reserve Champion honors with her steer SULL DOORBUSTER 4945 ET. SULL DOORBUSTER 4945 ET is a son of MONOPOLY.

Lastly the Grand Champion Bred & Owned ShorthornPlus Steer went to JMS SPARKY by Julia Schmid of Teutopolis, Ill. Schmid’s steer was sired by GOET I80. Riley Sleichter of Abilene, Kan. took home Bred & Owned Reserve Champion honors with her steer JJRM MR CHUB. JJRM MR CHUB is a son of JAKE’S PROUD JAZZ 266L.
