Workshop for healthy forests and mountain pine beetles in the Black Hills

PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Agriculture (SDDA) will host a free workshop to promote forest health. The workshop will cover forest management strategies and mountain pine beetles (MPB) in the Black Hills. The 2015 mountain pine beetle flight will be ending and the time to Identify and treat this year’s infested trees is just around the corner.

The workshop will be on Thursday, Oct. 1 at 6:30 p.m. at the Game, Fish and Parks Outdoor Campus West in Rapid City.

The workshop will be presented by Dr. John Ball of South Dakota State University and SDDA and Kurt Allen of the USDA Forest Service. Information will be presented on the importance of active forest management to promote forest health, as well as the how, when and why of treating MPB infested trees this fall and winter.
