South Dakota Farm Bureau reaches all-time membership record

Farm Forum

Huron, SD — The South Dakota Farm Bureau (SDFB) has touched the 16,000 mark on its membership, an all-time record for the organization. Farm Bureau memberships are family memberships and not individual, so the organization now represents more than 16,000 farm, ranch and rural families across the state of South Dakota.

“South Dakota Farm Bureau is so proud to represent each of these member families, whether they farm or ranch or come to us as insurance policyholders,” said Scott VanderWal, SDFB President and third-generation family farmer from Volga, S.D. “Today more than ever, farmers and ranchers need someone in their corner to help win the fight for positive public policy and sensible regulations, and Farm Bureau is here to work with them to achieve both. People off the farm win, too, when the food supply is secure and the families behind that food supply have a bright future.”

This year’s membership record of 16,000 is up from the 2014 level of 14,300 and the 2013 level of 13,800. Both of these previous years were new record highs as well. South Dakota Farm Bureau is the state’s largest general agriculture organization.

SDFB members will gather on Nov. 20-21 in Pierre for the organization’s 98th annual meeting. More details on the program and online registration can be found at
