MITCHELL,SD – The Corn Palace Education Center, an Eco museum consisting of a Children’s Fun Zone and a Corn Museum has plans to open on June 1 in Mitchell. The center will be located on the second floor of the city’s iconic tourist attraction located on 6th Avenue and Main Street.

The center will utilize an existing gym space on the second floor of the World’s Only Corn Palace and convert it into a fun and education place for all ages. “We have been working hard to build a place where children and their families can discover new experiences while learning about our agricultural history,” said Scott Schmidt, Corn Palace Director. “Visitors will find hands on activities such as, corn mural decorating, a spiro combine, a corn maze, a shopping market and a noodle rain forest!”

All of these new displays will be in addition to the popular combine and tractor stationed on the first floor of the Corn Palace during the summer months. The center is part of a collaborative effort with the City of Mitchell, Mitchell Area Chamber of Commerce, Mitchell Main Street and Beyond, Mitchell Convention and Visitors Bureau and a 5th Grade Class from LB Williams Elementary School.

The Education Center will be open to the public every day from 9:00am – 6:00pm and is FREE of charge. A grand opening celebration is planned for June 9 at 4:30 p.m.
