South Dakota State Legislature allocates $50,000 to SDSU Extension 4-H Youth Development
BROOKINGS, S.D. – The 91st South Dakota Legislative Session allocated $50,000 to SDSU Extension’s 4-H Youth Development program to assist with reducing or eliminating exhibit registration fees in 2016.
“Everyone in 4-H thanks our Legislators, particularly Senator Larry Tidemann and Senator Jim White, for recognizing the value this organization brings to South Dakota youth and families,” said Peter Nielson, SDSU Extension 4-H Youth Development Program Director.
These funds will be utilized to reduce or eliminate exhibit registration fees at select state 4-H events.
Exhibit registration fees are only one component of a 4-H member’s participation costs. Nielson explains that some usage or supply fees from other organizations or facilities remain. 2016 State 4-H exhibit registration fees will be waived at the S.D. State Fair and State 4-H Dog Show. Fees will be reduced at the State 4-H Horse Show.
“There are very real costs associated with these events. This fund allocation clearly shows our Legislators’ commitment ‘To Make the Best Better,'” said Nielson quoting the 4-H Motto.
