Improving the efficiencies of spring wheat production is the focus of the July 20 field tour at North Dakota State University’s North Central Research Extension Center near Minot.

The tour runs from 8:30 a.m. to noon.

“The tour will provide farmers with a different perspective on growing small-grain crops with low market prices,” says Eric Eriksmoen, the research agronomist at the center. “We’ll show and discuss some new research on low-input spring wheat production that farmers can use right now.”

Topics that will be covered are:

• Pesticide update

• Late-seeded spring wheat

• Hard red spring wheat seeding dates and rates

• Hard red spring wheat variety update

• Hard red spring wheat fertility

• Cover crops and saline soils

• Industry update

The tour also includes a pest clinic and early seeded crop demonstration.
