NDSU Langdon Research Extension Center field day set
The annual North Dakota State University Langdon Research Extension Center (LREC) field day will be held in cooperation with the Northern Canola Growers Association, on July 21, beginning at 8 a.m. with morning refreshments.
Participants will have the opportunity to see new and emerging crops being grown at the center, as well as receive research updates about the main crops already being grown. NDSU Extension specialists and research scientists will be on hand to answer questions.
“We’ve put together a diverse field tour with interesting topics and speakers,” says Randy Mehlhoff, Langdon Research Extension Center director.
He adds, “Our focus on canola production will continue as many growers in our region depend on canola as a primary cash crop. Another topic, ‘farming in financially hard times’ is especially timely and will offer considerations growers can weigh as they struggle to stay profitable.”
Other topics that will be covered are:
• 2016 weed control issues in northeast North Dakota
• Canola insect and disease issues in 2016
• Soil health efforts
• Groundwater management project update
• Faba bean production: A new cash crop for northeast North Dakota
• Canola row-spacing study
• Canola crop-sequencing study
The day will begin with coffee and doughnuts at 8 a.m. and the field tours start at 8:30 a.m.
Morning refreshments and a complimentary lunch are sponsored by the Northern Canola Growers Association. The field day will conclude at noon.
The LREC is one mile east of Langdon on North Dakota Highway 5.
